Development Wells drilling in Kish, the second major Gas hub in the Persian Gulf
The presence of a gas reservoir beneath Kish Island was initially suspected through seismic operations in 1968. However, it was not until 2004 that the National Iranian Oil Company’s Exploration Management, with the efforts of the National Drilling Company and the use of the drilling rig “67 Fath,” confirmed and announced the Kish gas reservoir at a depth of 4,000 meters.
Development of the Kish Field commenced in 2007 using internal resources from the National Iranian Oil Company. The National Drilling Company is currently executing the drilling of 12 development wells and one Workover well using land drilling rigs “54” and “61 Fath” on clusters A and B. The total drilling depth in the Kish gas field wells is expected to reach approximately 60,000 meters. The development plan for the Kish gas field is outlined in three phases, with the completion of drilled wells being part of the execution of the first phase.
The Kish gas field development project aims to transfer the produced gas via underground and offshore pipelines and to transport sour gas to the gas refinery located in Garzeh. Additionally, the sour gas will be processed at the refinery to produce light gas for export or domestic use. This project is under the purview of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company.
Located 30 kilometers east of Lavan Island, the Kish gas field is the largest gas field in the Persian Gulf after the South Pars field.
