The Darkhoein oil field is located approximately 45 kilometers north of Khorramshahr and 85 kilometers south and southwest of Ahvaz. The presence of oil in this field was confirmed in 1964 with the drilling of the first well, and before development, two additional exploratory wells were drilled in 1977 and 1996.

The main reservoirs of the Darkhoein field are the Fahlyan, Ilam, and Sarvak formations, with estimated oil in place exceeding 6 billion barrels and recoverable oil estimated at 1.54 billion barrels. The oil from the Fahlyan reservoir in the Darkhoein field is classified as light oil with an API gravity of 40, while the oil from the Ilam and Sarvak reservoirs is heavy oil with an API gravity of 22.

The development plan for the Fahlyan reservoir in the Darkhoein field was initiated in 2002 and was structured in two phases. The first phase involved the drilling of 8 wells. To complete the development plan, 20 additional wells were drilled in the second phase, including 15 production wells, 4 gas injection wells, and 1 water injection well. Early production from the field commenced in February 2004, with an initial output of 25,000 barrels of oil per day, which was increased to 50,000 barrels per day by August 2004 during the first phase. By March 2008, production reached 100,000 barrels per day with 15 production wells in the second phase. Upon completion of the second phase, production from the Darkhoein field increased to approximately 165,000 barrels per day.

Well No. 32 in the Darkhoein field was drilled in 2011 to identify the Ilam and Sarvak layers and to assess their production potential. Currently, the development plan for these layers is underway. Additionally, Well No. 33 was drilled in 2011 in the southern part of the reservoir. Given the significant production from the Fahlyan reservoir in this area, a plan has been proposed to develop the southern part of the field. Furthermore, within the Darkhoein operational unit, strategic oil storage tanks with a capacity of 500,000 barrels have been constructed, capable of storing oil to support the West Karun region.

The current production of the Darkhoein field is approximately 130,000 barrels of oil per day, with gas injection of about 250 million cubic feet per day. Presently, a contract is being executed for the repair of 6 wells and the drilling of 3 new wells (production-descriptive) in this field.
